How a Chemical Peel in Boston Can Help You Look and Feel Amazing

Boston residents expect the very best when it comes to skin treatments and procedures. Problems like sun exposure and the effects of aging can really take a toll on your skin. Fortunately, undergoing a chemical peel treatment can help reverse sun damage and slow down signs of aging.

What are Chemical Peels?

A chemical peel treatment in Boston involves the application of a chemical solution that is left on the skin for a specific amount of time to peel away portions of the outer skin layer and promote the formation of the skin tissue less affected by problems like sun damage, scars, and signs of aging.

There are three basic types of peels: superficial, medium, and deep. This refers to the level of penetration of each peel. A superficial peel only removes the very outer layer of skin, while medium and deep peels involve more extensive skin removal.

What is a Superficial Chemical Peel?

A superficial peel typically contains a mild acid to remove the stratum corneum skin layer composed of dead skin cells and other material that can block your skin’s natural radiance. Superficial peels help with skin problems like superficial acne scars, light lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, and dull skin tone. They do not require sedation or downtime.

What Does a Medium Peel Treat?

A TCA peel is a medium strength peel that is typically used to treat light lines and wrinkles, light scars, and hyperpigmentation. It sometimes requires sedation and a bit of downtime.

What Does a Deep Peel Involve?

A deep chemical peel is an aggressive form of treatment that is used only in cases of deep scars, deeper lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and stretch marks. Although it is a very effective skin treatment, it does require significant downtime and sedation.

How Should I Care for My Skin After My Chemical Peel?

You will need to baby your skin in the area that was treated with the peel after your procedure. This is because some of the outer protective layer has been removed, and your skin will be a bit sensitive at this time. Avoid prolonged sun exposure, cosmetic procedures in the area of treatment, and activities that could dehydrate you. Drink plenty of fluids and be sure to lock in moisture with a good moisturizer.
